I have recently discovered that I couldn't get what I wanted because I believed for too long that I wasn't worth receiving the thing that I desired. To put it simply, I would see what other people had and believed that they must be "special" to get the things they had...the same things I desired. No, I didn't desire to be something I wasn't, or to receive some material thing that was so far out of my reach that to want it for myself would be impossible (like the owner of the Taj Mahal for instance).
My desires aren't complicated: to love what I do and get paid well for it (follow my bliss, once I figure out what it is), the "perfect" person (for me) to share my life and joy with, my children to always love and respect me, my friends and family to feel the same way, a house of my own, a car I feel safe in, the ability to take my family on those kind of vacations I have only dreamed about, and the ability to lay my head on my pillow every night and be grateful for my life, and be grateful for the opportunity I was given to reach out to a fellow human being and make a positive difference in their life that day...and seize it.
Why haven't I gotten what I want? Because I have been to busy in my head with the things I don't want. It's no wonder I continue to get what I don't want when that is all I think about. Until now, that is. In one day, from the help of someone else...someone I don't even know...I have been given a wonderful gift. I have been given the gift of changing my mind. Yes, it is that easy. I made a decision to change my mind about what I think about. And in a few short days, my life has already changed dramatically. Why? Because I no longer concentrate on what I don't have and what I don't want. Now I concentrate on being grateful for what I have at this moment, and envision what I DO desire in my life, acting as if I already have all that I desire.
Yes, it's been strange at first. Change is always strange. Sometimes things don't get "good" right away, just "different." But different is also good. And now I find that I am excited to participate in my day. I am excited to see what I will create. I am excited to know that I now have a choice today...I can choose to concentrate on what I don't have and continue to prove myself right, or I can concentrate on being grateful for what I do have and thinking upon all that which I desire in my life that makes my insides scream with joy, while my muscles finally relax. Today I choose the latter.
Now I challenge you. Pay attention to what you are thinking about during the day. Pay attention to what you say to yourself. You might be surprised how much you dwell on all that you don't want. If you find that you are concentrating on what you don't want, rather than what you DO want, then maybe you, too, can realize why you are not getting what you want. Like attracts like, right? Positive attracts positive, negative attracts negative. What are you attracting? Maybe the answer to that will assist you in realizing why you are not getting what you truly want in your life. And then you can make the choice whether to change your mind...or not.
