There is energy flowing unseen through, around, and from us into the universe around us every minute, or every day we're alive. There is evidence ranging from scientific and photographic research to crackpot new-age theories, and even ancient Eastern culture has endorsed and recognized aural or psycho-kinetic energy fields which enwrap our bodies and some say are reflections of our spiritual selves. It is quite easy to dismiss and scoff at the very notion in Western culture, however for other less tech reliant and more physio-psycho-socially aware cultures the idea that we are surrounded by a colored nimbus of light is accepted as a given. Among these cultures there are many people who claim to be able to see these nimbus' either intermittently or at will depending on the strength of the receiver's ability and power.
The Chinese call this aural energy flow "chi" and they have even build holistic and drug free homeopathic medicines and treatments for the care and wellbeing of this chi energy. Massage is a simple and therapeutic option at the lower end of the scale for curative or wellness regimens, acupressure and reflexology are more involved and necessitate a skilled and practiced practitioner of their "art", at the far end of the spectrum is acupuncture and even bloodletting. What all of these treatment" options have in common with one another are that they deal with undamming or unblocking the flow of this life energy along the pathways around us, called "shakras" or meridians to restore complete balance and good health to the recipient. Theses holistic treatment options also share in common the fact that they rely upon the transfer of energy and direction for the blocked energies from a trained practitioner.
Note that I use the word "trained' practitioner of their healing art. Training is very important. As is technique, discipline of ideological directives, and the "power" within the administering holistic healer. Though they may be a licensed masseuse, or accupunture/accupressurist, they are also at the core of their belief system, a holistic healer. There is no mysticism or religious dogma to this simple term but actually solid research and thousands of years of the practices and the often "dramatic" feeling of improvement and restored health that many people experience as a result of regularly receiving treatment to their mind, body, and to their chi.
In various forms even westerners have tried to implement the healing power of touch, such as in religious
