In comparison to all of the stylish celebrity men who made an appearance at the People’s Choices Awards, this season’s Golden Globe Red Carpet lack-lustre crowd was a bitter disappointment.  Instead of raising the stakes when it came to presenting fashionable impressions, most men decided to choose the standard tux option as a safe and easy alternative to a chicer and more sophisticated type of styling.  Although there were many bland and boring examples to choose from, there were a few particularly passé looks that stood out prominently amongst the crowd.

George Clooney was dressed in the normal hum-drum attire.  His classic two-piece black tux looked unremarkable with the barely there satin lapels and ill-fitting pants.  Director Quentin Tarantino and Musician Jon Bon Jovi looked as if they stopped by the same tailor on the way to the show.   Their classic black tuxes accented with satin peaked collars looked sharp.  However their matching black on black silk ties and dress shirts appear to be boring and safe style choices compared to some of their peers.

The double-breasted jacket is a risky style option at the best of times.  When an ill-fitted tuxedo is thrown into the mix, the final result becomes even direr.  Case in point: the Red Carpet appearance of Tommy Lee Jones.  Between the scruffy facial hair and tired tresses, the crooked tie and boxy fitting jacket wasn’t only distracting; but unflattering to his silhouette.  The baggy trousers didn’t do much for his overall body size or portions, and made him appear short.  Last but not least was the forgetable arrival of Casper Smart.  He made his appearance on the Golden Globes Red Carpet with Jennifer Lopez.  It looked as if he was trying to co-ordinate his white dinner jacket and black pants with her ornate lace dress; it was unfortunate however that he looked more like the Beverly Hilton Hotel maître d’ instead of her date for the evening.

The men’s 2013 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Event took two steps back in terms of style and finesse; however there’s still a chance for redemption at the upcoming Award shows.   Hopefully the men will be bold and take a few fashion risks; in order to add some spice and interest to their bland and predictable look.   Successfully doing this won’t only encourage them to further explore their personal style, but it will also help them to regroup and prepare for the glare of the upcoming Oscar Awards spotlight.
