Memories
Memories of you fill my mind
and a tear creeps down my face
The pains of childbirth were gone
the second I laid eyes on you
Fear, hurt and lonliness vanished
when I held you in my arms
Your squirming pink body
and little face filled my world
As you took your first step
I wanted to help but didn't
You needed to do that on your own
I wanted to show you the world
And you needed to find it for yourself
I watched in wonder as you grew
from infancy to boyhood I wondered
what will you look like as a man
Your first day of school
You marched right in so brave
I walked home crying proudly
the teacher taught you things
and you learnt so much so quickly
I wondered what it would feel like
when you started high school
or college or university or work
Guiding you through the joys
and the sadnesses of friends found
and friends lost in playground society
Loving you and watching you grow
Nanny said you grew like topsy
I didnt really know who topsy was
But I knew topsy must have grown
tall and straight and strong and true
This is where a mothers memories roll on
through late childhood and teens
and then into manhood...
but in the second year of school
my memories of you come to a halt
they stop.. the photo album does too
sometimes it feels like my world stopped
in some ways it did
I like to believe there is a god
and there is a hereafter
It comforts me to think
that the times I feel you standing
right beside me as I do my chores
or write my poems that it is you
that you come back now and then
Just to see how things are going
Either way I have to say
My love for you has never faltered
My hurt over losing you is still so strong
fourteen years are but a blip in time
And the joy of having you in my life
Keeps me going moving along
Anthony your Mummy misses you
And wishes that you were here...

The Summer Of Fifty Nine
It was the summer I turned sixteen, we ran swiftly ahead of time,
balanced on the edge of life, knowledge
YOU CAN'T FORGET
You hold your chin up,
higher than you should...
you have so much more pride,
than I ever could.
You walk so
