The Super Bowl has become the crown jewel of sporting events, watched by more people around the world than any other yearly sports championship game. Most fans tune in to watch the two teams battle it out for the Vince Lombardi Trophy, but there is another segment that views the game for a much different reason. That group is the people who watch to see either the Super Bowl commercial spots or the star studded halftime show.
Go back in time 20 years and the Super Bowl halftime show was seen as the time when people made snack runs. That sprint to the refrigerator has been replaced in the past decade or so by big name stars entertaining the masses in gala spectacles. Names like Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, and the Who have graced the intermission of the NFL's showcase game. One thing that was becoming common though was that the acts were ones that appealed to a somewhat older audience. That ends this year with news of a hot act that is straight out of today's music.
Beyonce will be the headline act at Super Bowl XLVII on February 3, 2013 in New Orleans. Beyonce will hit the stage at halftime as the featured performer, someone who brings a combination of dance moves and music that is second to none in the entertainment world today. She brings to the stage something that younger viewers of the Super Bowl have been clamoring for since the Janet Jackson debacle at the Super Bowl in 2004. Jackson put on quite a show until a supposed "wardrobe malfunction" led to an exposed breast on national television. Censors went berserk, and the NFL took charge, putting on acts that would not cause problems of this nature.
The older acts have done that, though Madonna did have the younger MIA give the camera the middle finger during her performance. Beyonce will have no such controversy as she has always been a class act in her performances. Ever since the news was announced that Beyonce would be the centerpiece at halftime, rumors started of a possible Destiny's Child reunion. Well, that is no longer a rumor, as a recent report on nationalledger.com mentioned that the superstar says that the group would reunite on one of the world's most viewed stages.
The band disbanded back in 2004, all setting out to pursue solo careers. However, 2013 was evidently the time to come back together and release a new best of album called 'Love Songs'. It will be quite a moment for Beyonce and the world to witness the reuniting of the diva with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. One has to wonder though if this will be the only surprise in store for viewers. Beyonce's husband, Jay Z could also make an appearance. Beyonce made appearances at some of his shows so it would not be unheard of for him to make an appearance on the Super Bowl stage.
