2012 and once again we see Anne Hathaway gaining praise from film critics right around the world... the most amazing part of that being for very two different films, but then what do you expect from this versatile American actress.
First, she received praise for portraying Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s brilliant directed action flick ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and then she received Oscar Buzz for her role in ‘Les Miserables, a role that revealed Hathaway also has a decent singing voice.
Anne Jacqueline Hathaway was born on Nov. 12, 1982, in Brooklyn, New York. Her father, Gerald Thomas Hathaway, was a lawyer and her mother, Kathleen Ann, an actress. And while Hathaway finally took a shine to her mother’s occupation her family’s deeply religious nature at one time madevher determined to become a nun.
A gifted student, Hathaway found herself starting first grade while she should have technically still been in kindergarten. It was while she was attending Millburn High School that she first started to show that she had what it took to become a successful actress or singer (she excelled with a soprano voice). She performed in many high school theater performances and her work in ‘Once Upon A Mattress’ saw her nominated for a Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Award.
While she missed out on the award the Paper Mill was soon casting her in their own productions. This led to her becoming the first teenager accepted into The Barrow Theater Company’s Acting Program, so good was her acting ability that she was cast in a short lived television series called ‘Get Real’ at the age of just 16.
Her work on ‘Get Real’ soon led her to being cast as Jean Sabin in ‘The Other Side Of Heaven’ and then the role that made her a household name – playing Mia in well-received ‘Princess Diaries’. This soon led to her playing roles in other ‘fairytale’ movies including ‘Ella Enchanted’, the family animated film ‘Hoodwinked’ and reprising the role of Mia in ‘Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement’.
In a bid to show film-lovers that she was no ‘teenage prodigy’ Hathaway took roles in edgy films like the crime drama ‘Havoc’ and the critically acclaimed Ang Lee film ‘Brokeback Mountain’.
Since then Hathaway has continued to show her versatility by taking on a number of vastly different roles. Films like ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, ‘Get Smart’, ‘Valentine’s Day’ and ‘Bride Wars’ have shown that she can make a comedy successful
