The fashion trends of 2013 will see influences from decades gone by. Some are continuation of trends we’ve already seen consistently in the very recent few years. If you did not catch these fads from a year ago, don’t worry. It is not too late to indulge in them, and it looks like some of the trends will be relevant for a while.

Lace

What says more vintage and more romance in clothing than lace? Lace-making has been a craft since ancient times, and true lace was made in the late 15th century, according to eras of elegance.com.

Recently, lace over-laid dresses became popular and worn by celebrities, including the Duchess of Cambridge herself, Kate Middleton. The website fabsugar.com has a photo gallery of stars wearing lace in 2012. The list includes Kerry Washington, Halle Berry, Kristen Stewart, Heidi Klum and Taylor Swift. Many celebrities also donned lace dresses in 2011.

This year, in 2013, the lace trend continues as featured by prominent fashion designers in their spring ready-to-wear and resort collections. Lacy creations were seen on the runway shows for this year from famous fashion labels and design houses such as Valentino, Loewe, Oscar de la Renta, Elie Saab, Vera Wang and Roberto Cavalli.

Australian designer Collette Dinnigan has numerous lace dresses in her 2013 Resort and 2013 Spring-Summer Collections. Dinnigan is known for her wedding gowns and red-carpet dresses. You can preview her lace dresses at collettedinnigan.com.

It looks like the peplum is back again. Last year, on more than one occasion, high profile celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and the Duchess of Cambridge wore peplum accented attires.

The following designers and labels included peplum in their collections for 2013: Nanette Lepore, Chloe, Vera Wang, Jenny Packham, Collette Dinnigan and Valentino.

Stripes, checks and polka dots

These are fun prints that are reminiscent of the retro days. It is very likely that you will be seeing these patterns pop-up everywhere in the 2013 fashion scene.

Stripes were very prominent on Marc Jacobs’ runway show for his 2013 Spring Collection. His other label Marc by Marc Jacobs also featured the design heavily in both
