There are two schools of thought on whether or not astrological signs play a role in dating compatibility. Some believe astrology is nonsense, while others believe astrology is an accurate way to better understand themselves and others.

While many believe astrology is a “New Age” pursuit, there are astrological records dating back to 1645 BC in Babylon. Astrology was also an important part of ancient societies including Egypt, Greece and Rome. Two Roman astrologers were also emperors — and devised many of their policies using astrology.

Your birth sign, also called your Sun sign, is a reflection of your personality. Each Sun sign is associated with an element — earth, air, water or fire. In addition, each sign is either fixed, mutable or cardinal. Understanding these aspects of astrology can help you determine a more detailed picture of Sun sign romantic compatibility.

The Earth signs of the zodiac are Virgo, Taurus and Capricorn. The element of earth imparts patience, stability and sometimes, stubbornness. Earth signs find Air signs intriguing because of their spontaneous nature; however the intensity of a Fire sign can overwhelm an Earth sign. Earth and Water signs are often compatible because Water signs tend to calm the anxieties many Earth signs

The Air signs of the zodiac are Aquarius, Gemini and Libra. Air signs are quite talkative, spontaneous and social. Sometimes, Air signs can be superficial. Air signs work well with Fire signs because together, Air and Fire generate heat. As aforementioned, Earth signs find them fascinating, however Water signs usually possess an emotional depth not compatible with Air.

The Fire signs of the zodiac are Sagittarius, Aries and Leo. Fire signs are intense and forceful. They are ambitious and full of energy, and possess leadership qualities. They can sometimes be arrogant and insensitive to the needs of others. Air and Fire work well together, however Fire can be too energetic for quiet Earth. Their lack of sympathy is not compatible with Water’s emotional needs.

Fixed signs are Taurus, Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius. The traits associated with fixed signs are dependability and stability. Mutable signs are Virgo, Gemini, Sagittarius and Pisces. These signs are more adaptable than fixed signs. Cardinal signs of the zodiac are Libra, Aries, Cancer and Capricorn. Cardinal signs often make dynamic leaders and are very driven individuals.
