I grew up in a fairly religious home. Soap Operas were not allowed. It was my understanding why we do not watch these evil programs was, because of the bad influence they can have on you. They promote sex, drugs, and all around immorality.

Now that I am an adult, and a huge Days of Our Lives fan, I understand why people do watch these. I do not watch to see the sex, and drugs, I watch for the entertainment of it. It is nice to see that someone else, even though fictional, does have a worse life than myself. The stuff that happens on soap operas is so far out there, that even the most un-lucky person could not expect it to happen to them.

Soap Operas give the average Joe a confidence boost. Who cares if my boyfriend just ran off with the neighbor, at least I did not run over and kill my brother.

I do think that Soap Operas can become an addiction. That feeling of what is going to happen next. This can be very addicting. With soaps you tend to feel like you know the characters. You have may have been watching for several years and have been drawn into the story line. Most people can determain the difference between what is fictional and what is not. However there are a few out there that cannot. To these people it truly is an addiction. They simply cannot get enough of their favorite character.

Overall soap operas are just fun to watch. Besides, if we didn't watch them, they wouldn't have a job. Support your local actors and actresses, watch Soaps.
