If you are thinking about popping the question, look over the following tips to help you make your proposal extraordinary.
1. Timing. Although there is no standard for the right time to propose, fiancs to be should keep in mind that asking someone to commit to you for the rest of your lives is an intensely personal moment. In some cases the memory of this moment will last a lifetime; however, the moment will only seem "right" if you have both had an opportunity to discuss the idea and ruminate over it accordingly. I am a firm believer that relationships should not be placed on timelines with marriage being the ultimate goal. Relationships should evolve naturally through the course of time, and even beyond your wedding day.
2. Personalization. Some would-be fiancs personalize their proposals by catering to their girlfriend's "style" and surprising her with a shower of unexpected gifts, including that big sparkler he just shelled out a pretty penny for; however, personalization of your proposal should be centered on your "personality" as a couple. If you both enjoy going to baseball games together, propose there. If you have a favorite restaurant that you went to on your first date, make arrangements to pop the question there. Incorporate objects, events, locations, or people that are special to you both.
3. Be yourself. In most cases, your potential bride fell in love with you for the person that you are, so don't be nervous, and just be yourself.
It's not about the chocolate, the flowers, the champagne, or even the size of that sparkly ring. Proposals should come from the heart; that's what makes them special.
