It's taken awhile, but now, finally one of you has landed the perfect job with the fabulous salary. The boss wants to know if you can start as soon as possible.
What a fantastic opportunity, you can't believe it!
Then you come crashing back down to earth. The job is in another city hours away. You are going to have to sell the house. Fast.
Oh no, the place is a mess and you have some major spring cleaning to do.
First assign your partner to clean up the garden. Nothing like a bit of delegating to get you warmed up.
Here's what needs to be done. Prune untidy bushes and trees. Remove any dead or unhealthy looking plants, mow the lawns and take any rubbish to the tip.
On the way back from the tip call in at a landscaping place and get some mulch to brighten up the garden beds.
Okay your partner is busy; you can now concentrate on decluttering the house. Now lets see you're going to be moving anyway so you may as well start packing. Decide what you're not going to be needing for awhile, as you go along put aside things that you don't want anymore for a garage sale.
Now all the clutter has gone, time for some serious cleaning. Go from top to bottom. Clean the ceiling and walls, maybe even paint them. Dust and clean every surface including light fittings and on top of doorframes.
Take the curtains and blinds down and either wash them or have them professionally cleaned.
Your partner has probably finished the garden by now, so get them on to helping you clean the windows. If one of you does the inside while the other does the outside the job will be more fun and will get done in no time.
Mop or polish all the hard floors, then get the carpets and upholstery professionally steam cleaned.
That's all the hard work done. All you need now are some finishing touches.
Put bright quilts and cushions on all the beds and sofas. Hang some visually appealing artwork on the walls and fill any empty spaces with indoor plants.
Your home should now look "bright and airy" and "smell fresh and clean".
During the home inspections remove pets and children to Grandma's and put out some fresh flower arrangements. Bake some bread or brew some coffee to generate a warm homely atmosphere.
That's it! The house should now sell itself while you and your partner are out celebrating.
Enjoy!
