Possibilities for Earth Day are endless. Here are a few suggestions, but you can use your imagination on how to best show appreciation for the world we live in.
1) Discuss what the earth provides. Things like guitars and other musical instruments are created from the wood that comes from the earth.
The key point is to get the the realization that the earth is all keys of life, all things that we use, all that we are.
2) A Christian aspect could be a study of the elements. We're made of the dust of the earth. The elements that are universal to all things on earth. Some basic chemistry can help open one's eyes to how wonderful and interconnected everything is.
3) Plant a tree. Every child should learn how to plant and cultivate trees.
4) Get creative with the earth's discarded materials. Leaves that have fallen can make good collages or pretty prints.
5) Smell different scents. Blindfold and smell different herbs and spices the earth produces.
6) Take a hint from TV shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender. Discuss the elements and what they mean. How one can be associated with a certain element and how the element can relate to how you approach life.
There are limitless ideas on how to celebrate Earth Day. You don't need an excuse, you can take care of, cultivate, have dominion over the earth EVERY DAY. Teach your children how to treat the earth with care... as a gift for us from God.
