Making Earth Day meaningful for children of all ages

Earth day is something that should be celebrated every day. Teach your child what it means to take care of our planet. We should take care of the Earth every day and not just one day a year! Encourage your child to join clubs and organizations like the girl scouts or 4-H. it is never too early for your child to get involved in the community and the world.

Recycle! You can recycle just about anything. It is good for the environment and it can pay too! Aluminum cans are a popular way to make extra change. Cans sale by the pound, and in no time pounds can add up. Make Earth Day fun. Have a can drive, or an old phonebook drive. Call your mayor's office/local government official to see what you would need to do to have this.

Don't litter. If you do not have a bag with you stick your trash in your pocket. Form a team and get together and clean up a park or your community. Clean up your lakes and streams. Help make the world beautiful again. Spend more time outside and not indoors. Teach your kids to love and appreciate the simple things.

You can create community skits or plays. Have coloring contests, essay contests, or art contests. Offer prizes as an incenitive to participate. While the children are researching their project, this will help raise awareness. Give the shild a bag and have them fill it with trash they pick up from the community. The more bags they fill, the better the prize. If possible get the whole community involved, or at least get them together to celebrate Earth Day.

Have a garden or plant trees. Plant flowers. Help nature to grow and begin to reproduce itself. Chart your progress. It gives you a sense of acomplishment that you can not define with words. Volunteer where you are needed. Teach small children to help out at nurseries or parks. Hands on learning is often the best kind.

Take care of your stuff. Encourage others to take care of their stuff. Do as much research as you can on the subject. The more you know, the better off you are. Love the Earth. It is all we have. No matter what, we should all do the best we can to keep the planet in good shape for the next generation.
