Change is when we step outside of our preferences and comfort zone to try something new. It can be a scary process, but it can also be very exciting. In order to constantly improve our lives change has to be involved. If we were satisfied with our lives we wouldn't be looking for ways to improve them right? For some reason or another, we have come to the conclusion that what we are doing is not working. When something doesn't work we try to change it or improve it. This all requires the courage to step outside of our comfort zone and try something new.
Somehow fear has become a nasty little word. It is viewed as being negative. Fear is actually good for many reasons. First it lets us know that we are stepping out of our comfort zone and trying something new. This is an exciting time, it means that we have let go of whatever it is that was holding us back. I don't see anything negative so far. Many people have let their fears keep them from moving ahead in life. We get so use to being comfortable, not happy just comfortable, that we do not really do much to change our situation. Some of us are afraid of failing and others are afraid of succeeding, there are many reasons.
Lets break it down a bit. We will start with the fear of failure. I do not know about you but when I was learning to ride a bike I did not get it right the first time. I fell many time and nursed many scrapes and bruises. It took some time, but I did finally learn how to ride that bike. It was something that I wanted badly, and I did not care how I was going to learn or what I was going to go through I just wanted to ride that bike. I know that was a while ago and that when we get older we tend to be more careful because we have many experiences that tell us that we can not do certain things. I have recently been thinking about this, and I found that in my own life that the things I failed at I only tried once or twice and then gave up. Giving up or not even trying is more of a failure then falling a few times before the task is perfected. We all have given up on at least one dream because we did not get it right the first time. Don't we owe it to ourselves to keep trying until we reach that dream and make it happen? We all deserve to live our dreams, this includes you. Success is not meant for a few lucky people but for each person who has a dream.
There are also people who are afraid of success. This sounds a bit odd, but it is true. We do not know anything other then what we have been experiencing up until this point. We do not know what success is going to look like or what we will have to give up to get it. These are all ways that we use to keep ourselves from moving ahead. We do not even try because we imagine all the bad things that could happen and we forget about the good things that it will bring. This is where we really need to shift our focus. Instead of worrying about what could happen, concentrate on the wonderful things that you will make happen. This has eliminated a lot of stress and fear in my own life.
I have also found that when I am in the process of change it really helps to have a great support system. Find someone who believes in you and your dreams. When things get scary they will be the first to remind you why you are changing and how wonderful it will be when you reach your goal. It also helps to reassure yourself everyday. Look in the mirror and tell yourself that what you are doing is wonderful and how much you deserve to reach your goal. After doing this exercise a few times you will do it automatically.
So what are you waiting for? You have some amazing dreams to fulfill, it is about time you got started on those isn't it?
