Distance Learning

Can distance learning be a substitute for college?

Distance learning can be a great substitute for college. In all actuality, if you are using distance learning to earn a college degree, you are still "in college", you just don't have to make the daily commute. Distance learning provides many more ways for people to further their education.

Distance learning makes it possible for thousands of people in the United States to earn a college degree in their own time, when they may not have been able to attend college without it. Though people have many different reasons for not being able to actually go to the college campus every day, distance learning gives them another avenue to be able to earn that college degree.

With distance learning, many of the classes are held on line. All you have to do is turn on your computer and you are in class. While this may not be the best setup for some people, for others, they can actually learn more by taking the class on line than they would have in the classroom. Many people are distracted by all the things that go on in a classroom setting and have a hard time concentrating.

Transportation is another issue that has people turning toward distance education. Believe it or not, many families in the United States still only have one car per family or no car at all. With distance learning, they no longer have to worry about how they are going to get to class, and if they are going to be there on time.

For some handicapped people, it is much easier for them to take classes via distance education than it is for them to have to have someone load up their wheelchair, drive them to the building, unload the wheelchair, etc... Distance education has helped them out in so many ways.

Distance education is also great for the stay at home mom (or dad), in that they can stay home with their children and still be getting an education. Many of the distance education courses allow you to work at your own pace, which is an excellent way for stay at home moms to learn. Stay at home moms cannot always sit down and do their homework all at one setting, it is usually more like 3 or 4 settings.

In closing, distance learning is an excellent way to get an education. Distance education has enabled many people with the chance for a better education and thus a better life. Many of these people would not have been able to do it otherwise. For whatever reason you may have for not being able to go to college, distance education can open the door for you.
