The question is to remain. When is it valid to continue a high speed pursuit in Law Enforcement? Everyday there are accidents on our roads that can be avoided. DUI counselors are always concerned when you leave a class, are you going to have the sense not to drive a vehicle when you are impaired. MADD, Mother's against drunk driver's give their speeches to DUI offenders after the fact.
Does MADD promote their testimonies to the general public. Does MADD distribute fliers to all homes on the dangers of drinking and driving, the penalties of DUI's, Photo's of dead bodies in mangled metal to deter these things from happening or does MADD just collect money from people after the fact. I don't know the answer to that question but their biggest concern is these alcohol related accidents can be avoided. But any accident can be avoided right, people talking on cell phones, people smoking cigarette's etc.
My concern is the accidents caused due to A law enforcement officer deciding to continue a chase even though an innocent life's may be in jeopardy. My Uncle is a Cop and he will not do it. An example would be a Law enforcement officer's chasing a 18 wheel semi-truck. The speeds that they were going was in excess of 90 mph. These officer's got to the point where they even went up to the truck and attempted to shoot out it's tires at 90mph. And than the officer's had to dodge debris from the disintegrating tires. What if a steel belt went through the Cops window and killed him. It can happen. Did he think of that? No. He sure would have if it went through his window and severed his jugular.
I would think that this would be a very foolish thing to do. One, the truck is going 90MPH. If you shoot out a trucks tire's at 90 MPH how is this truck going to come to a safe stop? It isn't. These are all foolish decisions that LEO's make when they are high on adrenaline. Their adrenaline is pumping, the cannot make rational decisions and they are endangering lives. And for what? Where is a truck going to go? Is it better not to try to find out from the air where this truck is going to go, stop the chase, let the driver think he is safe he is eventually going to stop. Arrest him than. Anything is better than that ruck slamming into a family of five with three children.
I seen an officer chase two kid's in a pick-up truck on Court TV. When the teenager decided to blow a red-light a semi plowed into them killing both of the occupants. So in this case we had a innocent girl dead that
