When a new piece of software comes onto the market, its easy to think that the software you have is out-of-date. This is because they want you to. However, should you really upgrade to the new Office 2007? I've tested the software since the very first download was available, and now I have a fairly clear idea on what you should do. But first, you need to ask yourself one thing:
Do you want to write, with little pictures or formating, or do you want to work with lots of pictures and graphics?
If you are just writting, or doing your monthly sales report on Word, and your simple spreadsheets on Excel, then there is really no need to upgrade. There is no benefit, you will only have to learn how to use the new software, and spend the money on an upgrade you dont need.
However, if you want to work with images, pictures and advanced formating, especially in Publisher, then you should upgrade. Publisher has a lot of major upgrades, allowing you to do a lot more with your pictures and images. Its still not a proffessional publishers program, but it is certainly a lot better than the original versions. There are a lot more image formating options, both in Word and Publisher, and they make your images look stunning, with just a few clicks you can make reflections, improved shadows and lots more.
There are also a lot extras in Office 2007, not least is the new interface, that makes it so much easier to use, and looks so much better.
The only real improvements in Office 2007, over XP are in Word, Publisher and the additional programs, like Onenote, which is absolutely fantastic. Powerpoint and Outlook also have some major improvements. But if you only use Excel, Access and Word, for the basic day-to-day tasks, then there is really no need to upgrade.
