What ever happened to that special mid carder who deep down we'd all root for and just know that one day they hold that world championship, but sometimes know it will never happen. Three of resent time come to my mind.
Edge: Went from relative obscurity in his first days to joining Gangrel and forming the Brood with Christan. Already a cult following amongst Goth freaks. Who remembers those blood baths? Fast forward to his tag team days(Gangrel as leader, no accomplishment at all) with Christian. It all started with that classic ladder match at No Mercy 99'. After that everyone knew something special was being built. We were treated to some great tag team action. After the other classic ladder triple tag team ladder match at Wrestlemania we saw a different Edge and Christian. They got on the mic and it was gold. They continued to shine through the years and along with the Dudley's and the Hardys stole the show time and time again. You just knew someone would break free one day. We saw improvement and bigger pushes over time as a singles competitor especially in Smackdown's golden age from 2001-2003, where he was a high mid-carder and finally getting over. Glimpses of what could be. I remember when he interrupted HHH on the mic on a Raw. when he was champion. I was all hyped. Through all the progression, Edge was still missing something. Thank you Matt Hardy and especially Lita for you know what. Edge was finally able to shake the old tag team image and become 2 time champion and one of the best heels in the business.
Chris Jericho: Not much needs to be said about him. He was always great on the mic and great in the ring. Just look who they put him with on his debut. One of the best debut's in wrestling history. Apparently they saw something in him that WCW didn't. And they were right. Jericho became one of the most over wrestlers. He had superstar applause. We got those teasers of what was to come in two situations that stick in my mind. He faced The Rock in a number one's contender match the the WWF championship on Raw. The match had so much hype that night because it was two of the biggest babyfaces going head to head. These two were almost equally over. They had a backstage promo interview with Micheal Cole in what ended up being gold. What a classic exchange that was. Here Jericho was, a mid carder, who had never won the big prize holding his own against the biggest name in wrestling at the time. He lost the match but it was a great tease. The other time is his feud with HHH where he won the title on Raw and the decision was reversed. Eventually he beat both the Rock and Stone Cold in the same night to become the first Undisputed Champion. All you obsessive Jericholics' dreams were realized.
Shawn Michaels: He was with the Rockers and they were something different and over.......Singles career.
