We all know love is not for sale. You cannot purchase, parcel, post-mark or deliver it. But many pretend that some equivalent of exactly that is possible, those who promote mail order brides most of all.
Let me start out by saying that I am not against prostitution, at least, I do not think it should be illegal. I think vice crimes should be left between man and God and not regulated by the government. I am not here to make the case that mail order brides should be made illegal, I just want to deconstruct the notion that these are ideal arrangements or real marriages. I have had intense interest in the subject for some time and have watched many shows, but that is the extent of my knowledge. I just hate it when prostitution calls itself marriage.
I remember seeing young Russian women married to middle aged white Americans. How they would go to the "broker" and peruse photograph books filled with girls. The passcodes for sex would be things like, "She really wants to have children." Or, "She is very passionate." The men of course asked these questions the most. They would pick the most desirable girl from the photos and the broker's recommendation, and then a meeting would be arranged, and the broker paid.
Why would the girls do such a thing? Well, for one thing, in some of these countries such as Russia men are notoriously indifferent and vile to women. A kind American-regardless of the reason behind his kindness-would be seen as something entirely new. And all the rest of the answers come down to money. The country they live in most likely does not have a very stable economic base, or they themselves are just far below an acceptable standard of living, and in many cases they already have a family to provide for.
So they sign up, meet the foreigner, and have a few dates. Sometimes they do not speak the same language. The foreigner almost never bothers to learn the bride's language and it is on her to adapt. Sometimes even speaking the same language in any other but the basest sense does not even seem to matter. This further verifies my claim that this is nothing more than a long term escort arrangement. Why else would you marry someone with whom you do not even share the ability to communicate?
These people know little about each other and often do not share the same language but the topic of marriage is broached quickly. That you even went to an agency searching for a husband labels you-you need money. And these older, richer men are looking for something as well.
