Evaluating Antivirus programs

Best Anti-virus - Free or Paid

If you have a computer running Windows, then you need to have an anti-virus program, but choosing which one can be a nightmare. Whatever site you look on, they all say different things. But there is one easy question you need to answer first:

Free or Paid?

After you've got that bit done, then you have the harder choice, finding the best one. Hopefully, this article will make it that bit easier.

All of these programs have a total shield, that protects your computer 24/7.

Avast - Free
Avast is the program I have been using for about 5 months now, and it has been really good. It includes an email scanner, to stop viruses getting in that way. It also receives updates automatically, but not on a daily basis. It also has a P2P shield, and an IM shield. As a free alternative it is very good, and has blocked a lot of viruses. There are a few things lacking though, like there is no spam filter, no advanced spy ware tools, no system cleaner etc.

McAfee Security Centre - 60 (top version)
I had used McAfee security centre for 2 years, and it had been excellent. The price is very good, especially for the amount of bonus software you get. You get anti-virus, anti spy-ware, spam filters and extra tools that help you clean out your computer. These will make it run faster, as all the jump its collected over the years is safely removed. This version also has a backup and restore centre, to keep your data safe, a network centre to help protect your computer from others in the network, and a site adviser to protect you from back site, and nearly every site has been tested. Overall, this is the best paid for program, in my opinion.
