Understanding fibromyalgia

Today, there are truly beneficial treatments for those patients suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia! The capacity to get back your life is now a realistic expectation. Through the work, study and treatment evaluations of many dedicated physicians with many thousands of patients, new insights into the causes of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome have led to some very helpful and promising treatment protocols.

The real problem in these diseases (which are closely related and intertwined) is an "energy crisis" within the body. In Fibromyalgia, much like a "writer's cramp", the muscles tense up and shorten. This leads to pain in the muscle groups as the energy is further depleted with energy expenditure. (This is why exercise is not routinely recommended in the early treatments phases with patients, because they do not have enough energy reserves to expend on exercise. They need all their energy just for the activities of daily life.) Obviously, the treatment involves repairing and restoring the energy manufacturing by the body. With replacement of energy stores, the patient is then able to lead a relatively normal lifestyle.

The best treatment protocol involves the use of this anagram, S.H.I.N.:

S = Sleep... If you don't get restorative sleep, you will not improve. This is critical! And, if you are in pain, you don't sleep!

H = Hormone Replacement....Depletion of the body's hormones leads to poor functioning of the body's organs and lack of repair processes. Thyroid is critical to the production of the other hormones of the body, and if it is low, all the others will begin to deteriorate Today's over exposure to Fluoride and Bromide in our environment has lead to a displacement of Iodide out of the thyroid gland. This, in turn, leads to dysfunction of the thyroid gland, which often times leads to the production of reverse T3. Reverse T3 can lead to a blockade of the thyroid receptors, therefore leading to non-functioning of the thyroid hormone itself. T4 products (Synthroid, Levothroid, etc.) actually make this condition worse. Most doctors never check for a reverse T3.

I = Infections.....The body accumulates multiple infections over a lifetime, and many are lingering, smoldering infections that don't make you sick enough to go get treatment, but they cause fatigue, low grade fevers/chills, swollen, tender lymph nodes and other symptoms. Through comprehensive treatment, these infections (Epstein Barr Virus, Cytomegalovirus, Mycoplasma Pneumoniae, etc.) can be "knocked down" enough and the immune system boosted enough to overcome the draining effect these infections have on the body and energy levels.

N = Nutrition..... The diet the typical American eats is so depleted of nutrients, that it is impossible to get enough nutrients to have a healthy body. Only by replacing critical nutrients to the body, can one hope to have enough repair molecules to repair the body's damage from day to day. Nutrition can be obtained with special diets, nutritional supplements and nutritional intravenous solutions (IVs).

In summary, there are now in place many excellent treatments available to help reverse the underlying causes of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. And, there are clinics and doctors who specialize in these treatments solely. Please seek out care from trained professionals who understand the processes that create the diseases and are knowledgeable about the appropriate treatments.

Best wishes for a healthy tomorrow!
