A boss with such a problem, is a boss that creates problems for themselves in both the work place and in their personal life.
If your on good terms, try to find out why the drinking is the answer for whatever it is that is causing them to drink.
Let him or her know you care enough to confide in them that the overall opinion isn't becoming of what their title would indicate.
Let them know the role they play is one of a leader, and one that demands respect.
This can't happen if drinking is a part of their everyday habit so that everyone who works for them has a reason to talk among themselves about his or her problem.
Let him know that those under his authority can't expect to have confidence in a person who shows weakness by resorting to a habit that they bring to work.
Also, let him or her know that eventually it may reach his superiors as one or more who are dissatisfied with the habit may go over his head and bring it to the attention of his superiors.
Above all, show your concern because you care enough, and you feel uncomfortable about how others are aware of the problem and are uneasy having a boss that has such a problem.
