For most skateboarders, Ollying is usually the first trick they learn. This is because it forms most of other tricks you do. A lot of people invent their own tricks from it.
Before you start, you should know that you can do this standing still or whilst riding - up to you. The first step to Ollying is to place your back foot on the tail of the board. Place your front foot in between the middle and the front trucks (this is what the wheels are attached to) of the board.
The next step is to bend you knees, the more you bend your knees, the higher you will go in the next step. Which is to push down with your back foot and jump into the air off of it. This is probably the hardest part of learning to ollie. If you're learning to ollie whilst moving you should then use the side of your front foot to drag the board to guide it. This can also bring the board a bit higher.
Whilst in the air you should bend your knees as much as possible. The more you bend them the higher you will go. Make sure both feet are still above and level with the skateboard so you can land back on it. Once you arrive back on the skateboard you MUST bend your knees or you can risk getting hurt. It will also help you control the skateboard once you're on it again.
The final part is to gain control of the board again and skate on. Some people have trouble continuing after they land back on it, losing control and their balance.
Some people learn to Olly properly within a few days, some take longer. It depends on how much spare time you have to skateboard. Good luck!
