The drink stirs darkly, it pulls one back
to days of more than happiness
to nights of passion left unbound
to moments caste of eternity
Effervescent instances and dreams
a union built on futures promised
abandoned in drink, a destiny squandered
by social pecking and Jones racing
It burns lightly, missing warmth
Instead of soothe, it stings bitter
it calls to memories stark and distant
it sees with guilty eyes and bad conscious
Poured again from time's own bottle
seeking paths to days long past
Drink, engage, mourn and wonder
Pour until tomorrow, is today again
