softball. At least not if you want to make money.
3. Have a strategic plan in place at least 6 months before you open the doors of your business. Know what you are going to do, what you are going to accomplish and what it will take to accomplish that. After you have this plan in place, take it to someone else in business (doesn't have to be in your same business). Have this person be someone you completely trust to give you an honest opinion. This is similar to someone editing your work. Sometimes, we can't see the spelling errors in a paper, but another set of eyes can catch it instantly. The lack of a true strategic business plan, I believe, is the main reason for business failure with new companies.
4. Give back. This is not just a spiritual theory, but a very good business one. Give back to the community that you serve. Volunteer in local organizations, charities, churches, etc... Become part of the community that you serve. This will not only help you mentally but these people will become trusted sources of business and referrals.
5. Do something you love. If you get into your new business for the sole purpose of making one million dollars, you may very well make one million dollars. If you get into business because you honestly love and believe in what you are providing, you will get a sense of satisfaction that not many feel. Not only that, but when you make that first million, you will feel that much better about yourself.
Good luck and I hope this helps!
