When researching the common mistakes that it is possible for you to make as a small business owner the most important mistake the researcher makes is forgetting the primary heading in their research. That heading is the word common!
That word, common, means by it's simplest definition, "everyday", and "ordinary". If it is your goal to avoid 'common' mistakes you could use a rule of thumb adage I learned many years ago, "always remember the basics"!
All business' are the same when it comes to the basics, whether they are Bricks and Mortar, or they are internet based!
The basic usually forgotten first is the primary one! ASKING QUESTIONS! And this error is most often made because you don't want to be perceived as stupid or uninformed. Let me tell you this here and now! There is no such thing as a stupid question!
There are only those who think they know all there is to be known about any given subject. These are the people who are, usually, the least informed on any given subject. Or those who are too proud to say they are not as informed as they would like to be. The list of types could go on for some time, but you don't have to be classed in one of those categories.
Asking questions is the essential for any business owner who wants to be at the very least marginally successful. In asking questions you are laying the foundation stones for your business. You are seeking information! And good, reliable, information is the true cornerstone to success in any business.
There is, however, one caveat to asking questions! That caveat is that you must be willing to learn that it is often necessary to ask many questions just get to the point of finding the right question to ask, to get the specific information you are seeking.
I hope you weren't expecting a rose garden, or a panacea. None of them here! Just plain basics. Just remember that when you ask a question you are seeking knowledge, and when you are seeking knowledge there are no such things as stupid questions! There are only evasive, uninformative, or just plain stupid answers, usually given by people who don't know what it is you need to know!
If in doubt about this basic, just remember this phrase. ASK QUESTIONS, ALWAYS, AND DEMAND ANSWERS YOU CAN UNDERSTAND! IT'S YOUR BUSINESS, AND YOUR MONEY AT STAKE!
I will continue this article, on the next thread, in a day or so. That heading will be kNOWING YOUR PRODUCT OR SERVICE INTIMATELY.
