Voting on troop reductions in Iraq

by J. Will

I'M YOUNG, I'M BLACK, AND I'M NOT WEALTHY (YET), AND I DON'T WANT TO PULL THE TROOPS OUT. I know these characteristics and my feeling toward pulling the troops is almost a contradiction but let me explain. First I'll say that if you were to ask me what the smartest decision would be, I unquestionably, without hesitating will tell you bring the troops home! But if you we ask the question a little differently my answer requires a little more thought and more over a major loss to my ego. I will not go into my thoughts on the American ego at this point but check for later postings.

Instead of asking if we should pull the troops, I ask the question acknowledging the "elephant," in the room. Should we acknowledge, we America, has lost this war and we are indeed not as strong as Bin Ladin's army? That is what pulling the troops means and everyone knows it.

With my proud American ego I would never accept that. Yes I know it is not the smartest decision but I like my ego. I like going to another country and feeling- dare I say, better. I bet that's how all Americans feel deep inside (we all know you do). So Bush I DO feel you, but though this is going to hurt to say I think the smartest decision is to pull the troops and duck our heads for a while. The only positive I think we can pull from this now is to take example from our great championed Boxer Mohammad Ali. There's a very smart way to save face against an opponent that has the ability to beat you in a punch for punch fight, the "rope-a-dope." Let's not give up at all, but lets definitely lean on the ropes. Let big Bin swing and swing and we can stay pretty until he is tired. He'll make a mistake then and we can show the world how big our ego really is when we show them that, yea we took a hit in the first round that put us on our back but we never forgot. "...Revenge is like the sweetest joy next to getting _____." (2 PAC Hail Mary)
