Office tips: How to work with a tattletale

Working with a colleague who is a tattletale can not only impede your work, but can also be a detriment to your progress. To keep their ears and eyes open for some causerie, not to remain at their workplace, poking around in someone else's matter and then gossip, are the characteristics of a person who lives on tattling.

Though in good and strong workplaces tattling doesn't really happen, but you never know when you might just hear some co-worker gabbling about you without any reason. So how to deal with such a person. The following ways can help.

Try to identify a tattletale. Once this is done, try avoiding his company as far as possible because, if today he is saying something to you about someone else, tomorrow he might be telling some non-sense about you to some other worker, thus creating lots of confusion and misunderstanding. Eventually it will be only you who will loose his sanity.

The other golden rule is to follow the old proverb "Think before you speak". When you work in a same organization, it is sometimes not possible to avoid a blabbermouth all together .So try having only work-related talks and avoid gossiping with such person. Find a polite way to change the topic if you ever find yourself in midst of useless chitchatting.

Man is a social animal so it's very natural for a person to make friends with people, especially from office, whom we meet on daily basis. But my personal advice is to abstain from divulging much information about yourself (both on personal and professional front) to each and every person. Try to maintain only professional relation .You never know when you will be gossiped about.

Your own reputation and credibility as a person can also help dealing with tattling to a great extent. Nobody can bring you any harm if you are a person who minds his or her own business.

One last piece of advice-Maintain an honest relation with your superiors. If the tattling involves you and it comes under the knowledge of your boss, answer him without dissimulation. A good boss will know how to deal with a tattletale.
