The video game industry always has been male dominated. Most video game player are young males or middle aged males who still have a sex drive. Video games are mainly created for the young male consumer. Video games mainly been played by males ever since they were first invented. Females just aren't as interested in playing video games as males are. While the Nintendo Wii has changed that a little, men still control the video game market.

The average male video gamer enjoys eye candy. In fact the more a game has in it, the happier these games will be. Males want to look at attractive females in video games, and that's never going to change. Males don't want to spend money on video games where the female characters don't look good. Men want their video game females to be attractive and even buxom. Even the strong and independent Lara Croft is eye candy to most men.

Video games are mainly intended for fun and enjoyment. They were never meant to taken seriously or realistically. I don't know anyone who looks at any video game character as a role model. They're just for entertainment and pleasure. While guys know that they're not real, they still want them to be attractive and pleasing to the eye.

The cold hard fact is that sex still sells, and many female characters in video games are nothing more than eye candy. That's all these characters were created to be. The creators of video games know that the sweeter the eye candy, the higher the number of males who will buy the games. They know that nothing will help them sell their games like eye candy, so how can they not incorporate eye candy into their games.

Video game makers don't care about morals or ethics, they only care about making profits. They're not in the business to make clean wholesome videogames and videogame characters, they make video games with the intent of making as much money off of them as possible. Video game makers know that they're not going to much good money off their games unless they have sexy female characters in them or lots of violence. I myself find the portrayal of violence in video games far worse than the portrayal of females in video games.

Chances are high that female video game characters are never going to be more than eye candy. However, real females in magazines and other forms of media are eye candy themselves. Women in American society are seen as eye candy (for example Brittany Spears, Paris Hilton, Heather Locklear, and Pamela Anderson), so we shouldn't be complaining about how they're portrayed in video games. Many females are seen as mere sex objects in real life, and that's how they're seen in video games as well. People shouldn't be complaining about the portrayal of video game characters when reality is much more important.
