Short stories: Struggles in life

A Murphy's Law Rules day......

This is a real e-mail I sent to my parents a few years ago. My kids had several different activities, so Saturdays were hectic to begin with. Unfortunately - hubby got called into work this one Saturday, so I was on my own. This particular day was just a struggle from beginning to end.

I changed my kid's names to Jimmy and Mark to protect the not-so-innocent.....

E-Mail To Mom and Dad:
OK - here's my day:

Jimmy slept over at a friend's house last night, so Mark and I had to get up early - pick up Jimmy by 8:15 and get him to his baseball game by 8:30. He had a double-header, one at 9:00 and one at 11:00. I dropped Jimmy off with his coach and had to leave him there to get Mark across town by 9:00 for an advanced placement test. On the way, Mark complained of not feeling well, so we got to the school and rescheduled the test until the next week and drove back to the baseball field. We got there about 9:15.

Jimmy was at the pitcher position when we got there and he gave us this little pathetic wave. After the inning was over, he came back to the dugout and we were able to see his BIG FAT LIP and drops of blood all over his uniform! Evidently, during warmups, his coach was throwing balls to the kids and Jimmy missed - it beaned him right in the face. He had already lost one top tooth, but now the other top tooth and the one right beside it were loose. His gums were purple from the bruise and his top lip was nice and fat.

I called the doctor and asked the nurse if I should bring him in or if I should let him continue playing. The nurse said to let him play and told me what warning signs to look for. I, of course, was near tears for being such a horrible mother and not being there during the exact right time! During the two games, Mark was supposed to go to hip-hop dance class, but kept complaining about how bad he felt and I sure didn't want to leave again - not even for ten minutes, so I let Mark skip dance today. Anyway - this was the best two games Jimmy ever played. He hit ball after ball and even caught a pop fly. His coaches joked that if a fat lip was going to make him play so well, they'd pop him a good one before every game! I didn't think it was so funny.

So - by this time, Jimmy's team won both games. and, Mark had skipped both dance classes and his Advanced Placement tests. It was only noon and I was already tired!

We went to the Childrens Choir building to pay for the Six Flags tickets since it was the last day to do this and
