Why England is not known for its cooking

English dishes suffer primarily from bad marketing. While many common English dishes are not necessarily desirable, (tripe, for one... can anyone rightly justify eating cow stomach?) many are just poorly named.

!. Toad in the Hole - Sausages dipped in batter and fried. It's really not a bad idea... but who the heck wants to eat something named after an amphibian?

2. Bubble and Squeak - Basically, it's the stuff leftover from yesterday's roasted meat and vegetables (which is England's primary meal) chopped up and heated in the frying pan. Sounds nasty. We call heat it up in the microwave and call it Leftover Night.

3. Jellied Eels - This actually IS a bad English dish. Yuck. It is eels cooked down, and cooled, with gelatin added in the mix. I think I'm going to barf. Perhaps they could have given it a cool name, (after all, the French turned cooked snails into a popular dish) and drawn a bit more interest.

4. Banger's and Mash - Hmm.. sausage and mashed potatoes... it almost sounds naughty.

5. Black Pudding - also called blood pudding. It's made with pig blood. Maybe a new name could help it out, but i doubt it.

6. Spotted Dick - it's a spongy dessert with fruit. What's up with Brits and penis slang?

Add to it a propensity of the British to eat up every leftover body part, like kidneys and livers, and you end up with some of the nastiest cuizine in the world.

Perhaps some good marketing could turn it around a bit, but chances are, England has lost it's place in the world wide fine food rankings.
