There's no doubt the success of Pink has been huge. When I first heard Pink years and years ago, her vibe was kind of annoying and trashy to me. As she grew as an artist, her music strengthened and her songs stood out. Following on the success of Mizundastood and Try This, I'm Not Dead displays her courage and "I don't give a f* attitude" with grace, and taste.
The opening number of the album is a song about Hollywood stereotypes. It seems like nowadays the girls in the public eye are just aiming to be in the tabloids and egg the papparazzi on to catch them being ridiculous. Girls dumb themselves down to fit in. The pressure to be thin and beautiful in Hollywood is high and unfortunately it is a reality. "Stupid Girls" points out flaws in this. Even better, in the music video (found on the dualdisc version of this release) she portrays herself as Lindsay Lohan and Mary-Kate Olsen, and cleverly imitates Jessica Simpson's sexy car washing stunt from her These Boots Are Made For Walking video.
Following is her hit "Who Knew." But who knows what it is really about. At first this song made no sense to me, it was dull and lifeless. In an interview "It started out about death, but as it progressed it turned into just losing a friend over time," Pink says. Gotcha Pink.
Perhaps one of my favourite tracks on this album will never really be appreciated for what it is. "Long Way To Happy" is a song that is pop but still a strong rock song. Its about a one night stand that is emotionally damaging in a literal sense. Figuratively, I see it as someone you'd rather forget and just move on.

"It's gonna take a long time to love
It's gonna take a lot to hold on
It's gonna be a long way to happy, yeah
Left in the pieces that you broke me into
Torn apart but now I've got to
Keep on rollin' like a stone
Cuz it's gonna be a long long way to happy."

As with any album there are of course your sappy songs about crying to yourself late at night and wanting the one person who got away. These emotions are expressed in the song "Nobody Knows" where Pink sings her soul. Even though she is crazy and outspoken, she still cries and feels lonely. "The One That Got Away" is just... well a song that should get away. It's deep with an acoustic song, but not a favourite lyrically.
I'm Not Dead must be Pink's journal album. Apparently as a child she had packed her things at the age of 15, and made it out in the world on her own. She sings about running away in "Runaway" and life not making sense when she knew
