It happens to everyone, not just kids. Homesickness is a normal part of travel, especially if you are in a place that is very different from your home.
But how to deal with it?
It's easy. Just use these seven tips, and you'll be ready to spend another three months in the Rocky Mountains, instead of your planned week.
1. Think of the money you're saving on your electric and water bills!
2. Think of the mess your pets are probably making, right this minute. Spare no detail imagining the cleanup process.
3. Remember anyone and everyone that is back home who you'd rather not see or interact with. Some people find mother-in-laws sufficient. I, personally, prefer math teachers.
4. Think of anything else that you could or should be doing right now that is the least bit unpleasant. That snake under your bed last night doesn't seem so bad now, does it?
5. Build up in your mind the stress involved in the trip home. Bears? Ha! I've been through O'Hare Airport customs!
6. Also build up the stress of unpacking, especially if you've added souvenirs from your trip. Emptying spring-loaded suitcases is no picnic.
7. Try not to remember what it feels like to sleep in your own bed. In those warm, familiar sheets... Don't do that.
8. Try to imagine what the house will smell like: You forgot to take out the trash before you left home, and you had shrimp for dinner the night before.
Well, that's it. If you remember those seven tips, you should have no trouble dealing with homesickness. You may even persuade yourself to never go home again.
