It's hosted it's first game, been on show for the whole world to see, it's been on a pedestal to be knocked down. Whilst it's first game was 'only' an Under 21 international the sheer occasion brought in a record total of 60,000 people. The game did not disappoint a 3-3 hard fought draw did the teams proud and gave the stadium a fantastic introduction.
Just one more game remains before the inaugural FA Cup Final, but just how would it feel to be a player walking out onto the hollowed turf in a day to remain in history?
You arrive at 1:30 p.m, 90 minutes prior to kick-off, head directly for the changing rooms where all your necessary equipment will be left, once you've dumped you 'gear' you head straight for the pitch, although it's the same place you will return to in 90 minutes, it seems a world away from how it will appear then. You've seen the pitch and you once again return to the changing rooms to change into your warm-up clothing.
The warm-up has been and gone, now is the time, your in the changing rooms waiting for your chance, it may possibly be, your only chance to walk out at Wembley in front of 90,000 expectant supporters, you stand in the waiting area, the reality of what is about to happen begins to set in, now is the time, you begin your short walk to the playing surface, you appear from underneath the tunnel to a barrage of noise from 90,000 men, women and children all there for a single solitary reason, to see their team lift the trophy in 90 minutes. You line-up ready to meet the FA directors, the national anthem begins to play and the realism of what is about to happen hits you, your spine tingles, your blood runs cold, you freeze, your feet become stuck to the ground, you remember back to the days of watching your heroes doing the exact same thing and you thought of what could have been, and now you know.
(It's my first try at anything remotely like this, it is my future ambition to become a journalist, so any tips or constructive criticism, would be much appreciated)
