After two seasons on HBO, Deadwood has a loyal following. The setting (town of Deadwood)is just a small part of what makes this a successful modern day western. The characters bring to life the gritty realities of a gold rush town, and while the extreme language bordered on excessive at times, the show still manages to captivate and entertain. As the amount of gold in the area increases, so does the greedier element of society, and in a town where whorehouses are commonplace and plentiful, and liquor consumption is almost a necessity, there is bound to be ensuing conflict. Can the Gem Saloon survive with competition across the thoroughfare? Will Chez Amie close it's doors forever? Will Farnum continue as Major? What about sheriff Bullock? As yet he tries to keep a moral front, but with Alma Garrett bringing his baby into the world, will he confess all to his wife? Will they stay in Deadwood? There are so many unanswered questions that one has to believe a new season is forthcoming. We wait impatiently for the story to continue.
