Nowadays, it's almost impossible to not use a computer. We are surrounded by Internet banking, on-line gaming, MySpace; even your humble music player, more often then not, will depend on a computer.
To someone who isn't naturally good at computers, or who grew up at the wrong times, all these terms can seem bewildering, USB, DDR2 SDRAM, Firewire, Bluetooth, Blueray. and a whole host of jargon.
Learning computing is an acquired thing, but it depends on how much you want to know. The best way to become computer savvy, is thought by IT help desk throughout the world, on a constant basis. Read the manual!
Most computers, most software and hardware, will come with an operating guide, or a a manual, which serves to instruct people into how to operate it. Some people would call a professional technician to come and install hardware, but in doing so they are not learning anything. By all means, call and ask what a boot up sequence is, but try and fix, or build it yourself.
However, reading the manuals is not often enough. Most people may not have much clue what these manuals mean. The best option is to go to a computer course. However, if you're looking to improve your general computer savvy, then stay away from courses that merely teach how to use Microsoft Office. Try programming courses, and read up on the Internet about these things.
Talk to your more savvy friends, and aside from a few smirks, they should be happy to instruct you in the arcane ways of the computer.
