I simply cannot agree that Bob Knight is the best coach. Someone as controversial as he is should not receive the tag "best" coach. Yes, he's got the wins. It's the ways and methods he used while obtaining those wins I question. His side court behavior has at times been less then exemplary and that is putting it mildly.
There have been many great coaches. Too many I think to single one great one out. Most players are loyal to their coach and would say he's the greatest. In their minds he was while they were playing for him.
If I had to name one great coach, I'd name Ray Meyer of the DePaul Blue Demon's. He was all great things rolled into one. I had the opportunity to meet the Coach one evening at a dinner. He was candid with me on questions I had, but took the time to talk basketball with an older mature woman. He was a loving husband and good father. His son Joey went on to coach at DePaul. Ray passed on recently. When I think of great, I think Ray.
