An amicable divorce is a contradiction in terms. Whoever came up with the idea has obviously not experienced going through a divorce. The term amicable would imply that it is friendly. However, the term divorce is anything but friendly. It is the termination of a previously friendly relationship.
But, there are still those who talk about it; although I think that having it actually happen is a rare occurrence. I will not deny that it could be possible, but it's not too likely, especially if children are involved.
So, putting my beliefs aside as to the negativity of this term "amicable divorce", let's figure out how it might be possible. First, an agreement must be made between the two spouses that the divorce is to be an amicable one. Then, a division of property needs to be drawn up to make it fair and equitably even between the two of them.
The whole ordeal will probably be a compromise from each of them or else it would not be amicable. If they can agree on all of these terms, why are they getting a divorce in the first place? Seems they could work out an agreement and compromise on their marriage and make it work!
