The Adventure's of Lala Vanna
Lala Vanna's star ship tore through the empty silent space. Even though space doesn't carry sound waves there was enough radiation blasting from the four quantum ionic drives to make a noise on any other scale than sound waves. The violent thrusting of her star ship through space however was not reflected inside the ship.
Inside Lala's ship it was quiet, comfortable. In fact, it was down right luxurious one would even say decadent. Lala's family spared no expense in keeping her comfortable. She sat brooding in her cabin, completely ignoring the comfort around her. She despised the comfort. In her mind it kept her from experiencing real life, whatever that was. She knew it was different than her life. But her family had always sheltered her from such realities. Now that she was 15, things were going to be different, she reminded herself.
The day of her 15th birthday was the day of her freedom. On the planet Bearspaw, that she was raised on, that was the day she was legally able to do what she wanted without having parental consent. And so she had chosen to enlist as a cadet in Star Fleet Academy. She thought it was a brilliant move. In one fell swoop she had managed to shock and annoyed her parents, draw envy from her friends and peers, and finally get a taste of real life. She was finally going to a place where she wouldn't be treated like a kid.
But now, on her was to the academy, she was not sure it was so brilliant. Once she entered the academy, this ship would return to her parent's home world. She would be under the protection and guidance of the academy. And although it was quite a prestigious institution, she had heard stories about what can happen in the academy. From the moment she was born she had always lived with the fear of being kidnapped. It was a reality her parents had made her aware of at every point in her life. Everything she ever wanted to do that was fun or exciting was taken away from her because it was too dangerous, she might get kidnapped. And although Lala knew her parents were right, she also resented having all those fun opportunities being taken away from her.
As the ship approached their destination, she heard the announcement over the ships speakers that she was to report to the docking port. She quickly grabbed her stuff and, heart beating faster than usual, departed for the port. She took one last look back at the last remnants of her life. Then turned and left. The captain met her and shook her hand
