True love mirrors the core emotion of self-love. What you want for yourself you want for the one you love. But true love towards others has a special twist love makes you feel stronger - in true love you always believe that you have greater resources to cope with suffering and need than the one you love. You wish to bear their pain and you will sacrifice what you want for their good and happiness. So I believe that true love is "My love first" love. So how do I tell someone that I love them? By putting them first.
He loves me, and I know it when
My friends are his friends. He always welcomes them, and gives us space alone when he sees that we need it. They can tell that he cares about me, is good for me and I am safe and happy with him. And they see that he knows that they care about me and are good for me, and that I am safe and happy with them.
He knows me and still only has eyes for me. He praises me to his friends, or whoever is around to listen, till I blush. He teases me gently about the mistakes I make, but is careful to make sure that we both see the funny side of it and are both laughing he would rather die than humiliate me. If I seem upset he will come to my defence and make light of the event saying something like, "Well darling, things like that remind me that you are only human, I am prone to forget."
He is chatting to the most beautiful, pleasant, interesting woman in the room and although he is attentive to her she can tell that he is distracted and taken-up with someone elseand I can see by his constant glancing towards me, smiling or winking gently at me that he cannot wait to be back at my side, and to introduce this charming lady to the woman he gets most pleasure from being with. In the end she turns round to see who he has been looking at during their conversation, and he happily takes her to meet me.
He never makes me feel that I have to be perfect, rather he makes me sense that I have a co-worker at my side to work on myself and on him. He will assist me in all he can to help me be the woman I want to be, and he longs for me to assist him to be the man he wants to be.
When we do disagree he never insults me. He hangs his most critical words on sentences beginning with, "Yes darling but", "I see that my love but I still believe" He seeks my best interest and the highest good for our relationship.
I never need to ask for demonstrations of affection, he too does not like being more than an arms length away....He loves me, and I know it.
