I've let go of almost everything I've ever had
Some by choice some by force, either way
All have left, every good and every bad
And some just got lost along the way
And although I am alone
Almost all of the time
I know there are feelings I own
That are not only just mine
I see in the reflection
Of eyes that pass me every day
Pain masking as deflection
Hiding in words that no one seems to say
And in these looks I yearn to find
Something that may not still exist
A treasure I so carelessly left behind
In one of youth and age's more painful trysts
"Had I known then ..." I often find in a whisper
Trailing off, already knowing how it ends
Nothing to really prove how much I miss her
Aside from some silly words typed or penned
Sometimes I can almost remember a voice
Telling me it will be all right
Something about making a choice
Something, about darkness before light
I want truly to believe
I want there to be just one more smile
But something tells me it's always easy to deceive
A willing mind, at least for a little while
And though I may be chasing a ghost
In the eyes of strangers everywhere
I only wish I had a moment at most
To say the only thing that might prove I still care
I've let go of almost everything I've ever had
Some by choice, some by force, and now I see
I know why you left, the best part of a soul gone bad
I guess I can forgive you, for not forgiving me.

Forgiveness
Is a coin
Of life
Spend it
On your faults
Seen or unseen
On the roads
Of life
To make you

Too give unto someone

When my obsession
Is that of hate
