Can the 2008 Chicago Bears repeat their Super Bowl run of 2006-2007?

I don't think the Bears can return to prominence this year. Ownership is making some bad-decisions by alienating good players and coaches, and thus alienating the loyal fans that show up to watch them.

As fans, I'm sure you're mad at me and disagreeing right now, but how are you going to feel when Lovie Smith leaves and brings somebody else to to the promised land? Whats it going to be like watching Lance Briggs get 130 tackles for a more successful team? It would make sense if they had an abundancy of guys to replace these guys, but frankly they don't.

A championship-caliber team has to have some kind of core intact. The Bears have no identity short of Urlacher and a fast defensive line. They model their defense after the Colts, but Rex Grossman is no Peyton Manning, and thus no margin for error on defense like there is for the Colts.

Their defensive backs are good and young and rising, so thats a plus.

On the offensive side of the ball, their o-line is the opposite of their d-line. They're a bunch of gorillas with mud in their boots. They can clog the middle, but blitzes off the edges are clean and easy. Cedric Benson is a power back in the likes of the departed Thomas Jones, but he's unpolished, and his teams offense is one-dimensional at best. They can not exploit the edges on off

I'm not trying to hate, I'm just calling it as I see it. Good luck to the Bears in 07 and beyond. They're self imploding.
