As the 2012 award season continues to flourish, celebrity style and fashion faux pas will be prodded, dissected and scrutinized under the hot glare of the red carpet fashion spotlight.   It’s usually the female celebrities who get most of the attention during high profiled events.  However when it comes to fashion and style, it’s about time for the men to step up and share in some of the responsibility for their fashion savvy looks and forgettable fashion blunders.  This season’s

Golden Globes had a variety of fashion hits and misses.   Although the ladies led the fashion charge, the men also created quite a buzz when it came to style hits and misses.

The best dressed award definitely went to Brad Pitt. He looked both elegant and masculine on the red carpet wearing a Salvatore Ferragamo classic black three-piece tux, and black bow tie.  Complete with slicked back hair and a sleek black walking cane for good measure, his look was reminiscent of Hollywood past.  Mark Wahlberg also looked quite dashing in a basic black tuxedo with high-peaked lapels that complemented his muscular frame to perfection.   Another notable dandy was Matthew Morrison from ‘Glee’.  His Dolce & Gabbana black three-piece tux was tailored to graciously fit his long, lean frame.  The addition of a simple gold chain on the 3rd vest button with an open jacket completed a smart and sophisticated look more suitable to a dandy than his glee club teacher persona.

Unfortunately, many male celebrities aren’t immune to the fashion faux pas of everyday life; especially when it comes to dressing fashionably for formal occasions.  Jesse Tyler Ferguson of ‘Modern Family’ took top honors for donning the least appealing outfit of the night.  Between the champagne colored bow-tie which clashed against his pristine white shirt, and too tight black vest and pants; there wasn’t anything that could be done to help improve the mousiness of his complexion.  As for ‘30 Rock’ star Alec Baldwin, proportion wasn’t everything.  Donning a fabulous Zegna black tux, his black tie looked like he borrowed his from his younger brother, while his wide peak lapels looked lost on his stout frame.  Last but not least, ‘Californication’ star David Duchovny combination of a black skinny tie and tux definitely did not mix; especially when the tie’s proportions were more suitable for a teenager’s age and frame.  In this case it may have been time for age appropriateness to catch up with style.

This past 2012 Golden Globes was the perfect place to start off the entertainment award season with a bang; while introducing new looks and men’s celebrity fashion trends as a pre-cursor for the upcoming season.   Similarly to any awards show, there were both winners and losers when it came to men’s fashion and style.  As the gents graced the red carpet and showed off their personal style, it was clear that this upcoming award season will be chock- full of interesting and not so interesting men’s fashion to both praise and criticize.
