First of all, I find it more convenient to just pop in a disc and play with the click of a button. However, computers were initially the very first platform for video games. Atari was a computer, had the keyboard, disc drive and all sorts of games and things you could do. You could also make and copy your own games onto a floppy disc, as long as you know how to write the proper language. Computers were also the first to come out with 3 dimensional gaming. If it was back when the PS2 and xbox came out, I would have voted for the PC. However, the new consoles out are almost the same thing. In this era, if you need to do homework then a computer is use full, but in the eyes of a gamer these newest consoles are were it's at. Instead of making sure your computer reach the specs of the game and all that, just put in the disc and it already installs,no hassle, you'll be playing before you know it.
Today's society looks for the most convenient, in which case the console is most suitable. There are a lot more gamers now or days than there ever was before, therefore the reason why consoles are winning the vote. The PS3 and Xbox 360 is very similar to a computer, such as surfing the web, chatting with buddies, watching movies, listening to music, looking at pictures and gaming on and off the Internet. You can also get all kinds of applications that fill the gaps as appose to the pc.
Consoles are also portable, yes so are laptops, and no most consoles don't have rechargeable batteries but who needs a battery when you can plug it into a wall and not worry about battery life? Laptops also don't hold a charge long when playing a game and when your video graphics card bites the dust, you will find it expensive to fix. Not only that but there are gadgets out there to make your game console completely mobile. Not to mention that video gaming is the hottest trend in today's society and if you want to be completely mobile consider the PSP or gameboy. I am a gamer and that is why I choose a console over a PC any day. However, if you are going to be a student at Boston College, I'd get a laptop.
