If you are having problems with your career, or you feel stuck in your current job, it could be that your focus is just a little off. There are many reasons why a career could be stuck such as focusing too much on the things that you want as opposed to the things that you need. When we sit back for a second and focus on what is important in our jobs it can make it much easier to get ahead.
What Will Get You Ahead
What are some of the things that are going to get you ahead in your career? If you have to move 3000 miles from home, it is something that you should consider doing for a short while. If you need to go back to school to get that advanced degree then you should go back to school. Yes, it might be tough, but you should be focused on the things that you need to get ahead faster.
Be A Diplomat
You might not appreciate this about your career, but all jobs have to include some diplomatic skills in your skill toolbox. Working hours that might be inconvenient, or being nice to your boss are both things that you have to do in your job to get ahead. Hopefully you are doing these things and gaining favor at the same time so that you can strive toward getting past your current job. It is so much easier to get ahead when the boss likes you. Knowing that you can navigate the political waters is just as important as being a dependable employee.
Think Of Your Family
Your family needs you to get a bigger paycheck to take care of the financial needs. Even if you have a two-income household, it can be dicey trying to get by at a minimum salary or a salary that renders you among the lower paid employees at work. Therefore, you should consider your family and their needs before being stubborn about doing what you have to do to get ahead.
Anticipation Kills
The only thing that is really keeping you back is the anticipation of doing what you have to do. Going to school might seem scary, but once you finally go to school it won't be that bad. If you need some flexibility, you should consider online schools as an alternative to going to class on campus.
Focusing on your needs as opposed to your wants is going to provide motivation to succeed at work. You will be more motivated to get that degree, or finally play some politics at work to get ahead. You need to support yourself and your family, so think about what is most important to you and you will manage to get the new promotion you wanted all along.
