Is eating meat wrong?

Is eating meat wrong? Why would this even come into question? Eating meat is a normal part of omnivore and carnivores nature. Should we walk up to the lion and tell him that killing the gazelle is wrong? It's not much different for a human. We are entitled to eat animals for nourishment for whatever reason we see fit. Not all of us are born to subsist on tofu.

Why is there such a strong anti-meat campaign out there? Don't vegans and PETA members realize that meat eating isn't only healthy for a person consuming it but it also balances many environments. Simply put, if people stopped eating animals, they would overpopulate get sick and spread disease.

Second, farmers both large and small especially, depend on people eating meat for their livelihood. People make the mistake of thinking just because the farmer raises a cow of pig for butcher it automatically means they think little about the animal. That is false. Farmers put a lot of thought into each animal on their place. The bloodlines of each calf is recorded, a bull and cow are carefully selected for optimal production. Those calves are a source of pride. Have you ever seen a farmer stay up all night trying to nurse a sick calf to save its life? Have you watched him stick an arm into the back-end of a cow to help deliver a stuck calf? How can you say they do not care?

Why should people feel guilted into giving up eating meat? Because a minority feels strongly about it? Isn't that ironic that the very same people are the ones themselves wearing leather shoes, driving cars with perhaps leather interior or have a leather belt or wallet/purse. One may wonder what they expect people to eat instead? Tofu? Lettuce? Also, a pure vegetarian diet requires much research and must be done properly to ensure one is getting enough protein. Many would attempt such a diet only to feel listless and tired.

Finally, you don't often hear meat-eaters sit a criticize vegans or protest their lifestyle or even their livelihoods. We expect the same courtesy in return. People have eaten meat for centuries and will continue to do so. The American farmer will still raise his cattle contentedly on his own property to nourish his family, friends and neighbors alike. If you don't like it, you don't have to eat it. Simple, but don't dare say it's wrong.
