From the day I got married to your dad
I hoped we would get a little lad
I prepared a crib and painted your room blue
I was waiting for you
I nursed you and made you grow
Bought you books and helped you know
Sent you to school and all day through
I was waiting for you
Now you are grown up and big
My hair is gone and I wear a wig
Want you to call or meet me once a while
I was waiting for you
My time is up and I'm lowered down the grave
Going to a place where no one would crave
This time I don't want you here
Though I am still waiting for you
