Poetry: Society

Alone our children cannot ride their bikes
Go for walks or take hikes

What happened to the days when playing outside was safe
Our children's future relies on us to make tomorrow better
So take the step to change some laws
And make it safe to play
Let's make it safe to be a child
Right now, right here, TODAY

The laws don't protect us because of "human rights"
Caught in the act and arrested doesn't always mean a thing
The courts can do only so much the laws are in the books

We have to change the way
To make a better today

Our children are not safe in school
A college campus can become a violent zone
Sitting at a stop light
Aware of danger around the corner
Don't open your door at home
Don't accept an offer of candy
Don't speak to a stranger
Keep your cell phone handy

Our society is not social
Our kids can't trust the cops
Our wife's are not safe shopping
Walking in the parking lots

What's happened to the world today
Homeless people die and rot
What's happened to the kindness
We are supposed to show each other
What's happened to the meaning
Of we are all sisters and brothers
