Golden Globes 2012 fashion reviews: Best and worst dressed ladies

There are so many interesting and ridiculously humorous observations that can be highlighted from the 2012 Golden Globe awards.  Starting with the highly anticipated (and equally disdained), tongue and cheek hosting style of British comedian Ricky Gervais.  Then famously ending with the clash of the music titans; starring none other than the rock world’s super couple Elton John and David Furnish, versus legendary pop maven Madonna.  However, before the colorful insults and catty verbal spats were vividly brought to life, the sharp glare of the spotlight shone mercilessly upon the red carpet arrivals.  As a result, the best and worst dressed stars of the evening were boldly introduced.

One of the top picks of the night included Best Supporting actress nominee Jessica Chastain from - 'The Help'.  She looked simply stunning; donning a white Givenchy couture gown with lightly sprinkled pearls. Then there was a very shapely Kate Winslett, who graciously showed off her feminine curves while wearing a classic and sophisticated belted black and white, two-toned dress.  The night was full of fabulous gowns; however la piece de résistance was worn by the always stylish Angelina Jolie.  The actress won top glamour honours; while bathed in a satin white Versace gown that was accented with a luscious red, asymmetrical neckline.  This elegant design was reminiscent of classic sophistication, wealth and strength; and stylishly showcased the glamorous style of Hollywood past.

As for the worst dressed ladies, nothing screamed blue and white tie-die more loudly than Michelle Gellar.  She sported a Monique L’huillier blue splattered gown, that looked more like a painter’s project than red carpet fashion. Although running away with a Golden Statue for the Best Original song from ‘Masterpiece’, Madonna looked stuffed and confused in a Reem Acra silver capped-sleeve bodice dress that was accented with a green pieced together, ruffled bottom.  Throughout the evening there was a selection of unflattering pieces to choose from. However the most unremarkable gown was worn by the winner of the Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical category: ‘My Week with Marilyn’ star Michelle Williams. Her blue velvet animal-print Jason Wu gown lacked any ‘wow’ factor and didn’t bring any ‘sexy-back’.  The matching blue headband completed her matronly look, and shattered any reasonable comparison to her glamorous and sexy counterpart: the legendary Marilyn Monroe.

The typical red carpet show is made to create the perfect drama and intrigue for introducing glamorous, star-studded events.  Between the classic entertainment and priceless hissy fits, the 2012 Golden Globes was rich with stunning fashion highlights, and poor with unimpressive style lowlights.
