Lessie Lindstrom was a beautiful waif who was only interested in solitude, sunsets and shopping for scarves. She spent hours picking through enormous bins of scarves.  Always searching for another unique collectible. She was never content with her newest discovery. Lessie had become totally obsessed with scarves. She already had several hundred of them but she wanted twice that many. Her career had taken her all over the world many times. Shopping helped her deal with the stressful demands stemming from her work life. It was inexpensive therapy. All she had to cover was the price of the taxi fares and the scarves. Although her hobby was harmless, it had taken over her life.

The young lady had fallen in love with a particular scarf. She’d seen it at one of the upscale boutiques that had seemingly popped up overnight within the newly renovated section of a quaint Italian village. She couldn’t shake the image of the scarf. Seductively coiled on the top shelf of the trendy store. It was such a beautiful shade of red. Lessie absolutely adored that velvet scarf. She’d never owned one before. She had to possess it.

The price tag was shocking. $5,000 for one scarf. Lessie had to admit that it was an absolute masterpiece. It was a little pricey but she could definitely afford the purchase. That red velvet scarf was the ultimate treasure. Her obsession would finally disappear once she’d taken possession of that exquisite scrap of fabric. Lessie made a promise to herself. She would stop collecting them.

Lessie paid the thrilled shopkeeper. Then she triumphantly threw the red velvet scarf around her neck. She headed back outside. The wind had picked up considerably. Her long scarf whipped around ferociously. An old-fashioned vehicle happened by. Much too close to Lessie. Her beautiful scarf became entangled with the vehicle. The red velvet scarf soon tightened around Lessie’s neck. She was dragged a short distance down the road. A small crowd gathered around the unbelievably horrific scene.
